What can You Expect in the New iPhone

If you look at the patents that have been granted recently, it would appear as though Apple is working on incorporating near field communication (NFC) in its upcoming iPhone. While that could be true, the new iPhone might not be using NFC for only sending payments to merchants. There have been reports suggesting that Apple might also use NFC for sending gifts from one iPhone to another.

Phone

Gifting

It is quite common to download and store digital media form various service providers online. In fact, downloading is more common now than physically purchasing or renting a DVD. However, copyright laws make it very difficult to transfer these files from one individual to another. Many distributors have systems in place from preventing or limiting the sharing of their products amongst users. Also, a lot of times, transferring copyright protected files from one device to the other leaves the file corrupted or inaccessible.

It is reported that Apple has come up with a unique way of transferring these files. It will provide a gift giving platform where individuals will be able to transfer files using a standardized way, which is by using iTunes.

One way in which the gifting process might work is by charging the sender for the gifting product through their iTunes account. Then the sender can transfer the file to the receiver by tapping or using NFC. This is feasible as long as the two devices are near each other. In case the sender’s account cannot be charged, then the receiver can pay for the file.

Other ways of using gifting

There are even more possibilities with the concept of gifting. In case the receiver is not nearby or if you want the gift to be a surprise, then you can place a request with iTunes. You will be charged for it and a gift file will be created for the receiver. The gift file will have various levels of protection like a DRM which will mean that the file would be authorized for playback on the device of the receiver.

iWallet

Recently, Apple won a very important patent for a technology called iWallet. This piece of technology gives users control over their subsidiary monetary accounts using their iPhone. Also, individuals will be able to send and receive transactions through their credit card with the help of thee NFC chip. With the help of iWallet, users will be able to have complete control over their credit card profile, and will be able to set parental control for their kids, in case they wish to use iWallet as well.

This is not all as iWallet allows users to keep a track of all of their iTunes transactions. It is possible that the iWallet might work in sync with other apps, which can be used to  buy movie tickets or access other similar features.

3D technology

Even though 3D technology is nothing new, very few devices get enough information from their surroundings to implement it correctly. However, it is rumored that Apple has a solution that might prove to be a lot more effective in this case.

Along with these  features,  you can expect multi-player gaming and an OLED display to be some of the other possible features for the upcoming iPhone 5.

iPhone 5 Most Likely to be Released in October 2012

Apple has been tight lipped about the rumors swirling around about the launch of its new iPhone. Users were expecting iPhone 5 in October 2011 but had to be content with the iPhone 4S. Only a few months have passed since then but the anticipation for a new phone from the company is already quite high. Some believe that the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) in June 2012 might be the time when the new phone would be revealed, while others believe that iPhone 5 will not see the light of day till October 2012.

Considering Apple’s history of releasing software upgrades and then the phone, it is more than likely that iPhone 5 will not be unveiled at the WWDC.

iPhone-5

Previous iOS releases

All you need to do is look at the time line of previous releases to figure out why June is not a probable time for the release of the new iPhone. iOS 6 will most definitely be an important part of the new iPhone, but there has been no news yet about the new operating system.

Usually, Apple releases the beta version of the OS and gives developers a few months before it releases the products with the OS. This time is used by developers to fix and create apps for the phone. During the period, Apple also needs to see the performance of the OS outside the labs.

If you look at last year, Apple announced the new iOS that is iOS 5, on June 5 2011. This was the day when the first beta version was released to the developers. Over the next few months, Apple made the required changes to the beta and enabled the new features. Developers utilized the time to make apps that made full use of the various perks being offered by the APIs.

Time between beta release and final release

It took Apple four months and 9 beta versions to release iOS 5 and then the iPhone 4S. Some might feel that 4 months is too long a time, but if you see, it has been the case with other iPhone releases as well.

The shortest time span between the beta release and the final release was for iOS 4. The beta for iOS 4 was released on April 3, 2010 and the final version along with iPhone 4 was released on June 21, 2010. That amounts to 80 days. iOS 3 was released 92 days after the beta launch, and iOS 2 was released 127 days after the beta launch.

So, even if iOS 6 was released on May 1, it would leave only 65 days till WWDC, which is by no means enough. Also,  Apple has not yet announced about its plans to host any events between May and the WWDC in June. So, it seems more than likely that the new iOS will be released in June at the WWDC and iPhone 5 in October. Apple usually updates its mobile line-up in June, but last year was different. It is more than probable that the world’s largest technology company will follow the same route this year as well.

iPhone 5 May Come with Liquidmetal Casing and In-cell Multi-Touch Technology

There is probably no other device which generates as much hype and expectation amongst the masses as an iPhone. The probable next version of this device, called iPhone 5, is no different. It has only been a few months since Apple launched iPhone 4S and only a few weeks since the iPad 3 was launched. However, Apple customers are now eagerly waiting for the next wonder product.

Like previous iPhone releases, the release of iPhone 5 has also been surrounded by rumors and most of them are talking about liquidmetal and in-cell multi-touch display. It is understandable if most of you dismiss these rumors because they are rarely true. But this time, they may have some truth behind them.

iPhone 5

Liquidmetal?

The first thing that might come to your mind on hearing liquidmetal is the movie Terminator 2. However, liquidmetal is not science fiction and is already present in Apple products (albeit in small quantities). In fact, Apple purchased the license to use the technology in 2010. It has been using the technology since then for making SIM ejector tools that accompany iPhones and iPads.

If you go to the website of the company that owns the patent for making liquidmetal, you will find that liquidmetal is an alloy. It is about twice as strong as Titanium and has the processing efficiency you would relate to plastic. Essentially, you have an alloy that can be used like plastic but provides tremendous strength. Zinc, copper, nickel, titanium, and certain other materials are used for creating this alloy using a patented bonding method. There are numerous customers for this special alloy, as it is useful in industrial coating, military, and medical industry.

People believe that Apple will be using the alloy for making the casing of iPhone 5. It is possible that this is completely false because even before the launch of iPhone 4S, people were anticipating a metal casing. However, liquidmetal actually exists and is being used in Apple products. It should not surprise you if the next iPhone sports a glossy metal finish instead of the fortified glass you are used to seeing.

In-cell multi-touch technology

This particular technology does not have as much support as the liquidmetal but is still a possibility. In-cell multi-touch technology is built inside the TFT LCD panel, unlike most of the current display technologies that are built over the panel. With the help of this technology, the phone can be lot thinner and lighter. What is even more impressive is that because of the removal of the additional layer, the screen will be brighter.

The problem with this type of panel has always been the price, but certain news sites have reported that the cost of production has reduced enough for Apple to move on to this technology. There have even been reports of Apple purchasing such touch panels from Toshiba and Sharp.

When you put the above mentioned prospects together, you have on of the best smartphones money can buy. However, with Apple products, you can never be sure till the device has actually been revealed.

iPhone 5 cases popped up in AT&T inventory listing

MacRumors reported that cases of the up and coming iPhone 5 have popped up in AT&T‘s inventory listing.

The tapered design case showed up in a screenshot of AT&T’s inventory listing, which was posted by a few prominent blogs such as Apple-dedicated blog TiPb and Boy Genius Report. The screenshot include 3 listings of the iPhone 5 cases made by Case-mate.

A few weeks ago Case-mate was also in the news when they updated their site with a product-gallery of iPhone 5 cases. They took it down after some buzz on the internet and replaced it with a pre-order page.

Many speculators have considered the fact that the company will offer only one of the two models at an event next week, while another speculation has indicated that Apple will only release an upgraded version of the current iPhone.

This update came about in light of a highly expected Apple “event” where they will supposedly reveal the iPhone 5 and maybe the new iPhone 4 once and for all.

iPhone 5 may experience stock shortages

The highly anticipated, iPhone 5 may experience stock shortages due to the defective touch panels are being sent back to the manufacturer “Wintek”.

The defect, “delayed bubbles” are trapped between the touch panel and the lamination layer, delayed bubble is hardly to prevent as it is usually found during the assembly and it isn’t spotted during the laminating process, according to DigiTimes.

DigiTimes has also reported;

In response, Wintek simply indicated that all of its products are being delivered on schedule.

Wintek is expected to fix the defect immediately, the sources said.

Despite from the bad news we have here, anonymous sources have indicated Wintek only responsible to produce 20-25% of the iPhone 5 touch panels while Taiwan-based TPK Holding is accounted to produce 60-65% and Chimei Innolux will take care the rest of the remainder.

Digitimes sources are also reporting Apple is aiming to ship around 25-26 million units of iPhone 5 in the fourth quarter.

iPhone 5 hard-shell case leaked photos shows thinner, tapered edges & larger size design

In months back we’ve heard a lot of rumors telling the iPhone 5 will be thinner, tapered edges design and even with a larger screen, today we have new leaked photos of iPhone 5 hard-shell case to “strengthen up” those rumors.

As can be seen in one of the photos, iPhone 4 is almost fits inside the case and it is showing thinner and slightly larger design (possibly a larger screen). In another photo, a hand is holding the case indicates tapered edges design.

However the user says these photos comes from an undisclosed source which has made this leak is a bit less reliable, but almost everything from what we’ve been expecting about the iPhone 5 design is still on the right track.

Alleged iPhone 5 parts reveals A5 chipset & x430 mAh battery

Chinese social networking site (Weibo) posted an image showing A5 chipset and x430 mAh battery will possibly be the components for the next-gen iPhone (iPhone 5).

iPad 2 is currently using the A5 chipset, however the A5 chipset in the image isn’t from the iPad 2 as it is slightly different.

The image posted also quite a bit fishy to us; the “A5″ logo is stamped on the chipset isn’t painted and it’s a little bit off. Another thing, x430 mAh (iPhone 4 has around 1420 mAh) reads on the battery, but as we are concern, Apple does only stamps the Voltage and Whr on the outside of the battery, not the capacity in mAh.

Along with that, the source of the image can’t be confirmed.

iPhone 5 Release Date, France Telecom CEO suggests October 15th

A release date! But not quite yet.

According to Mac4Ever, France Telecom CEO Stéphane Richard, has spilled the beans on the iPhone 5 release date, which he claims is on October 15th.

Although he hasn’t backed his claims with solid evidence, (he might just be spit-balling, as rumors are circulating about the iPhone 5 release being “mid” October) being a CEO of a major telecom company does give credence to his words, as a person of his stature sometimes get “inside” info on these type of things.

His words:

“If I believe what we heard, the iPhone 5 will be released on October 15.”

Richard has a tendency to be quite open with the press, this is evident with his recent discussion of Apple’s plans to “eliminate” SIM cards with the use of a built in “e-SIM”, which is frowned upon by most carriers.

iPhone 5 Release Date, France Telecom CEO suggests October 15th

There is a discrepancy to Richard’s comments to the press though, like the day of the launch. If it were to be on the 15th, it would fall on a Saturday, which is an unusual day for Apple as they prefer to launch stuff on Thursdays or Fridays.

There are other dates floating around as well, like the 14th (Friday) and even a week earlier on the 7th.
